This article explains how to create and send Slack messages using Tivian Communicate XI (CXI). It covers the process of scheduling a message, selecting a Slack channel, setting message properties, and crafting the content. The article also touches on tracking message engagement through the Analytics section and notes some limitations of Slack analytics compared to other campaign types.
Information
Slack is a popular collaboration tool in many offices and decentralized workgroups. Using slack to reach your employees “where they are” can be a very effective way to get your journey message noticed.
Tivian Communicate XI (CXI) can send Slack messages to your employees’ public Slack channels and track engagement in the analytics dashboard.
Schedule a message
- In the Campaign section, in the top-right corner, click Add New.
- A pop-up window will appear.
- Select Slack from the Type options to the left, and click Create.
4. Select the Slack channel you will be sending the message to and click Create. (You can only choose from publicly available Slack channels.)
5. The new message will be created in the timeline and open to the Properties tab, where you can edit the following properties:
- Type of Message: This will be set to Slack. If you want to change this message to any other type, you may do so here.
- Target Channel: You can change where the message will be sent.
- Deliver: Defines a delivery date. (Delivery time is managed by your account administrator.)
- Reminder: Defines a reminder cadence, upon which notification recipients set in the journey’s Preferences will receive an email memo about this message’s upcoming send.
- Destination: Defines a destination, either within the Employee Experience or to an external URL you can define.
6. Click on the Edit pencil, and fill out your message fields:
- Subject: Will show at the top of your message. (Remember to keep it short and sweet.)
- Message: The main information that will show below your subject.
- Call to Action: The text that will appear in the Call to Action button that will link to the set destination. Tivian recommends a clear Call to Action directing your employees to take action.
Note: The preview of your message will appear to the right of the edited message. Click it at any time to preview what your message will look like in Slack.
- Once you have finished your message, click on the eye (View) icon to save your changes.
- If this journey requires approval for messages, click on the Actions tab and click on the toggle slider next to “Approve this message.”
- Lastly, click on the Notes tab, and give the message a Title and optionally some notes.
Tracking your messages
You can view your Slack messages’ engagement in the Analytics section of your Communicate Journey. To find specific Slack message results in the Daily Engagement, look for the Slack icon.
The Summary shows the following for Slack analytics:
- Users Reached: Shows how many channel members clicked the CTA in the Slack message.
- Engaged Views: Shows how many channel members engaged in the content linked from the Slack message.
- Actions Taken: Shows how many times the CTA button following the viewed content, has been clicked.
Note: Due to the fact that you are sending this message to a specific team’s channel, you will not receive the same rich feedback as you do from other campaign message types, as your audience members in this case, are only limited to that specific channel.
FAQ
What permissions do I need to create Slack messages in CXI?
You must be added to the Communicate Journey team and hold the permission status of Owner or Editor to create new messages. Additionally, you need to have a Slack integration set up with CXI to use this function.
How can I track the engagement of my Slack messages?
You can view your Slack messages’ engagement in the Analytics section of your Communicate Journey. Look for the Slack icon in the Daily Engagement. The Summary shows Users Reached, Engaged Views, and Actions Taken for Slack analytics.
What are the limitations of Slack message analytics compared to other campaign types?
Due to sending messages to specific team channels, you won’t receive the same rich feedback as with other campaign message types. The audience is limited to the specific channel, which restricts the depth of analytics available.
