This article provides a comprehensive guide on exporting and importing projects in EFS, covering both anonymous and personalized projects. It includes step-by-step instructions, important considerations, and specific details for different project types.

Export and Import Basics

  • Anonymous and personalized projects can be exported and imported with or without result data.
  • Exported languages and translations (text elements / survey messages) are included in the project export.
  • Mail templates can be exported separately via Libraries > Mail templates (from version 20.x).
  • Installation-related contents such as the scale or question library are not exported.
  • In the case of a result data export, no data of the Upload question type is exported.
  • Reports created via Reporting+ are not exported.

Export Options

To move a complete project, all displayed options should be selected when exporting:

  • images (contains customized images of the survey)
  • cimages (contains overlay images)
  • layout (contains buttons and form elements)
  • templates (contains survey templates)
  • css (contains survey CSS)
  • javascript (contains survey JavaScript)
  • Files from “Shared Library” (only those used in responses and detailed configuration)*
  • User-defined templates for containers

*The option “Files from shared library” should only be selected if images from the shared library have been included in the project. This is necessary because images can otherwise no longer be accessed after import. If no images from the shared media library are included in the current project, the shared media library should not be exported. The file and the subsequent project could otherwise become very large.

Personalized Projects Considerations

  • Participant data and result data are not part of the project export unless you have special additional rights. They usually have to be exported separately.
  • If you have the necessary rights, you can select the participants and results data during the project export and then export them directly in one go (via the item “result data”).
  • User-defined participant variables are included when exporting projects.

Export and Import Process

Exporting a Project

  1. Open the project in the respective installation
  2. Select ‘Export‘ from the menu on the left
  3. Choose Project > Continue
  4. In the subsequent overview, select the desired options to be imported. To move a complete project, all the displayed options should be selected when exporting. See above for full details
  5. Copy the file to the local PC

Importing a Project

  1. Within the project overview (new installation) click on + New Project > Import Project
  2. Follow the instructions in EFS, using the previously created export file
  3. Ensure you select the same project type as in the original project (anonymous, personalized); you also have the option to automatically detect the project type

FAQ

What data is not included in a standard project export?

Participant data, result data, installation-related contents (e.g., scale or question library), upload question type data, and Reporting+ reports are not included in a standard project export.

Can I export mail templates with the project?

Mail templates can be exported separately via [Libraries Mail templates] from version 20.x of EFS.

Should I always export files from the “Shared Library”?

You should only export files from the “Shared Library” if images from this library have been used in your project. Otherwise, it’s best to leave this option unselected to avoid creating unnecessarily large export files.
